This Big Island Hawaii Hotel is located on a small beach in Kona. King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel is the annual host to the Ironman Triathalon World Championship.

The beach area (pictured below) is the starting point for the swim portion of the race and the transition point between the swim and bike portion.

This area was actually the home of King Kamehameha and there are many ancient historical artifacts throughout the hotel. Also located on this Big Island Hawaii accommodation is Ahu'ena Heiau (Hawaiian temple) which is on the register of National Historic Landmarks. I remember reading about this place when we studied Hawaiian History in school, but I had no idea this is where it was...

June 2007 Update -- The King Kamehameha (or King Kam) was sold from a local company to Pacifica (based in California). A major renovation is planned as the hotel was getting rather worn.
