You've gotta love Kauai...its raw beauty speaks for itself and the island is so...simple. There are no buildings taller than a mature coconut tree (four stories high)...but that doesn't mean there is no luxury...there are Kauai luxury resorts, and other types of Kauai accommodations as well.

The lack of high rises just gives this Hawaiian island an understated feel to it...and doesn't take away from the breathtaking scenery surrounding you.

I have categorized the following Kauai accommodations by location and the following price tiers:

• $ - $100 and up
• $$ - $200 and up
• $$$ - $300 and up
• $$$$ - $400 and up
• $$$$$ - $500 and up

Sidebar--I have noticed that alot of resorts are charging what is called a "resort fee". It usually runs anywhere from $10-$25/day. It includes such things as complimentary breakfast (kind of contradictory to charge for complimentary breakfast isn't it?), internet access, gym use, parking, etc. You can't decline this fee, so just be aware of it.

South Shore (Poipu) Kauai Hotels

Poipu is on the South Shore of Kauai and is considered the sunniest part of the island. It is centrally located to explore Waimea Canyon to the west and Hanalei to the North.

There are many great restaurants and shops in Poipu and nearby Lihue so it is a favorite place to stay of many people...including myself.

East Shore (Lihue and Kapa'a) Kauai Hotels

The East Shore of Kauai is home to the towns of Lihue, Wailua, and Kapa'a.

One thing to keep in mind about the East Shore of Kauai is that some of the Kauai accommodations do not have a swimmable beach. If this is something that is important to you, make sure you know before you go.
