The Kauai Travel Guide
Welcome to The Kauai Travel Guide. This spectacular island will not disappoint you. It is called the "Garden Isle", and when you arrive there, you will understand why.
Kauai is known for its amazing, unspoiled, lush beauty. I think it is the most scenic Hawaiian island. It was my favorite island to visit every year...Let me show you why...
The island is shaped almost like a perfect circle with an area of 553 square miles. There are four counties in the state of Hawaii:
Although Kauai is the fourth largest, and oldest island in the state, it has the lowest population of the four counties at just under 60,000. This is just one sign of its laid back, quiet personality.
Skyscraper resorts? You won't find any...There are also no high-rises there. An official Kauai rule is that no building may be higher than a mature coconut tree, or four stories tall.
As for the scenery, words cannot do it justice. You will just have to see it for yourself on your Perfect Kauai Vacation.

Kauai is home to Koke'e State Park located in Waimea Canyon, a place labeled as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific by Mark Twain.
Within Koke'e State Park is miles and miles of hiking trails for you to explore. At an elevation of 4,000 feet, the various lookouts will offer you some breathtaking views of Waimea Canyon and the west side of Kauai.
Kalalau Lookout at the top of Koke'e State Park will give you a glimpse of Kauai's famous Na Pali Coast.
This rugged seventeen mile coastline on Kauai can only be seen by air, water, or foot. In fact, two-thirds of the entire island is not accessible by car.
Kauai is also home to some incredible beaches. From secluded Polihale Beach Park on the west side, to sunny Poipu Beach on the South, to picturesque Hanalei Bay on the North, you will find one to call your favorite.
Remember Mitzi Gaynor singing I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair in the classic, South Pacific? That was Lumahai Beach on Kauai.
Speaking of films, other ones filmed here include:
- Blue Hawaii
- King Kong
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Jurassic Park (all of them)
- Uncommon Valor
- George of the Jungle
- Throw Momma from the Train
- Tears of the Sun
All in all, there have been over 40 movies shot here. It has also been used for television shows such as Gilligan's Island, Fantasy Island, and Baywatch Hawaii.
When you witness Kauai's beauty firsthand, you will understand movie producers' obsession with this location.
Want to know what you won't find on a Kauai vacation? You won't find big city hustle and bustle, three-lane highways, big shopping malls, or a nightclub scene.
