Maui Beaches -- Makena Beach

Makena Beach is located in the secluded Makena Resort Area and actually consists of two Maui beaches...Big Beach and Little Beach.

The two are separated by a rock formation called Pu'u Ola'i (pictured). As you look toward the ocean, Big Beach is to your left and Little Beach is to your right.

Big Beach (below) is a BIG beach...It is 2/3 mile long and very wide. Although the parking lot may look full, there is so much room, you will rarely if ever feel crowded here. In fact, Big Beach in one of the quietest beaches on Maui.

If you're wondering if Little Beach (below) is quiet too...well, it is actually one of the busiest beaches on Maui. Why? It happens to be a nudist beach...Nude beaches are not legal in Hawaii, but it is not enforced very consistently. So people, nude and not, flock to this beach.

The water is generally pretty calm, but it can get a little rough because of the steep drop off. It is definitely a bit too rough for small children.
