Maui Restaurants -- Mala Ocean Tavern

This is one of the healthiest AND tastiest Maui restaurants.

You would never guess by the looks of this place from the outside what a great Hawaiian restaurant this is...Mala Ocean Tavern is located at the far north end of Lahaina on Front Street.

It is owned by Mark & Judy Ellman, the same people that own Penne Pasta in Lahaina, and the Maui Tacos chain (there's even a Maui Tacos in the Minneapolis airport). They used to own Avalon in Maui as well.

Their concept is small plates, organic whenever possible, whole grains, no preservatives, no hydrogenated oils and everything in proportion...like this quartet of hummus, raita, olives, babaganoushi, fried chickpeas & Greek feta.

Dinner entrees can cost over $30, but lunch and breakfast (breakfast only on weekends) are great deals between $10-$20. You know it's good because you see a lot of locals. They also have great ocean views. Reservations are recommended (808) 667-9394
