My Oahu Vacation Guide will tell you everything you need to know about planning a vacation in Oahu. Whether you are looking for a romantic Hawaii honeymoon or Oahu family vacations, you will find it here.
Do you know why? Because a vacation in Oahu has something for everyone. Out of all the islands, Oahu offers the most choices.
Choices of what? Well, everything...including:
- Accommodations--Luxury hotels, Deluxe Hotels, Condos, and Bed & Breakfasts--you will find them all here.
Chances are, if you are visiting Oahu, you will be staying in World-famous Waikiki at least part of the time because the vast majority of accommodations are in Waikiki...and Waikiki IS a very fun place to stay, hang-out, people watch, shop, eat, etc. Many people ask me what Waikiki is like...well see here for yourself. Waikiki is not just a place...it is an enigma...
- Food--From inexpensive plate lunches to world-class Pacific Rim Cuisine, pick your fancy.
- Scenery--From white-sand beaches to lush mountains, let your senses absorb it all.
- Activities--Experience Hawaii from the deep-blue Pacific Ocean to the top of Diamond Head Crater.
- Attractions--Oahu is not your typical island paradise. It is a place of important historical significance as well.
- Lifestyles--See the extreme contrast between metropolitan Waikiki and the rustic North Shore.
- Beaches--With so many world-famous beaches, you will surely find one that you can call your favorite.
- Shopping--From bobbing hula girls for your dashboard to an Armani suit, you can get it all here.
My Oahu Vacation Guide will show you the best this island has to offer for your vacation in Oahu. After all, this was my childhood playground as well as my "backyard" for most of my life.
Oahu is the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands and covers approximately 600 square miles. The island is made up of two mountain ranges: The Koolau range on the east (windward) side, and the Waianae range on the west (leeward) side.
It is known as "The Gathering Place" for good reason. Approximately 5 million visitors come to Oahu each year. Close to one million of the total 1.2 million state residents live here, and it happens to be the island that I grew up on.
Honolulu, the state capitol, is the 11th largest metropolitan area in the nation. This is where world-famous Waikiki is located as well as Hawaii's most known landmark, Diamond Head.
Within a short fifteen minute drive is historic Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Honolulu is also home to Iolani Palace, the only royal palace in the country, as well as Punchbowl, which is the National Cemetary of the Pacific.
Within an hours drive from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu lies the laid-back North Shore and the rural town of Haleiwa.
You will probably recognize many of these spots on the island from such hit television shows as Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I. and more recently, Lost.
You see, the great thing about Oahu is the variety that it offers. There is breathtaking scenery with more than 100 world-renowned beaches, as well as world-class shopping, entertainment, and dining. All this is located within a relatively short radius.
Here is what a typical Oahu day could look like...
Get in an early round of golf along the ocean, or hike up a lonely trail and watch whales cross the deep blue horizon below.
Grab a local "plate lunch" and eat it on the beach. Take a dip in the ocean and relax on the sand.
Return to your hotel, and go shopping at the world's largest open air mall.
Get a mai tai and watch the sun set over the ocean while deciding what type of world class cuisine tempts your palette.
Go out for some great food and live music.
Either stroll along the moonlit water's edge, head out on the town, or call it a night...after all, tomorrow is another
day in paradise.
