North Shore Oahu Beaches | Ehukai Beach

As far as surfing Oahu beaches go, this may be the granddaddy of them all...or at least has the most recognizable name(s). Ehukai Beach Park on Oahu's famous North Shore is home to the surf spot known as the "Banzai Pipeline" aka Pipeline, or simply Pipe.

The swells usually start in October and start taking all the sand off the reef to make Pipe start firing. In the winter months from November to February, huge surf turns this little beach park into THE place to be...this is the ultimate proving grounds for surfers and boogie boarders...hosting many competitions throughout the season.

Ehukai Beach Park is also home to Backdoor Pipeline...or simply Backdoor. Backdoor is actually the same wave but going in the opposite direction...and are rarely both good at the same time because they need different swell directions...Pipe is best on a west swell and Backdoor is best on a north or northwest swell.

Right next to Backdoor is another spot called "Off the Wall" aka "Kodak Reef" because when the surf is good, the beach is packed with professional photographers.

Actually this whole beach area going west (toward Haleiwa) and north (toward Sunset Beach) is dotted with surf spots and just so many beautiful Oahu beaches...just pick a spot and take it all in.

Ehukai Beach Park has the biggest parking lot besides Sunset Beach along Kam Highway so you can't miss it...
