East Shore Oahu Beaches | Kailua Beach
This is one of several Oahu beaches to be named Best Beach by Dr. Beach aka Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman. Kailua Beach won the honor in 1998...once a beach wins the honor, it cannot win it again.
It is easy to understand why Kailua Beach won the honor...first off, the residential town of Kailua is on the other side of the island from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and the laid back feeling of Kailua seeps into the atmosphere here.
The sand is like fine powder (beautiful but kind of a pain to wash off) along this picturesque 2 mile stretch of paradise...
One of the best Oahu beaches for strolling, swimming, and can be decent for boogie boarding (especially for kids) or bodysurfing.
It is also excellent for kayaking...either just cruise around or head out to one of the four offshore islands to hang out. FYI...it is going to be easy in one direction and tougher the other way due to the winds and current. They even have kayak rentals right on the beach or right up the street at Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks. You can also rent windsurfers, boogie boards, and the newest rage, paddleboards.

Caution--Be careful for Portugese Man-of-War (jellyfish). They look like blue bubbles ranging in size from peas to quarters. You can spot them on the beach if they are present, and warning signs are usually posted.
