East Oahu Beaches | Makapuu Beach

Makapuu Beach is one of the most picturesque Oahu beaches...the road leading to it sits atop a cliff that allows you to see all the way down the windward (East) shore of Oahu.

As you gaze out to sea, Rabbit Island (snail shaped) and Bird Island sit on the horizon and the Makapuu Lighthouse sits on the right.

Makapuu Beach is very tranquil when the ocean is calm but is known as a very popular body surfing and boogie boarding spot...for that reason, it is not a good spot for novice swimmers unless the surf is dead calm. Surfing, however, is not allowed here.
