Big Island Beaches -- Kaunaoa Beach

Kaunaoa Beach ranks in my Top 2 Big Island beaches...the top spot is a toss up with Hapuna Beach in front of the Hapuna Prince Hotel. Kauna'oa Beach is also known as Mauna Kea Beach because it sits in front of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

It is about a mile north of Hapuna Beach so conditions are very similar...great for swimming...especially in the summer. It can be a little rough in the winter.

Parking can be a problem here. You need to get a beach pass at the front gate so come before 10:00 a.m. if you don’t want to wait.

Amenities:

  • No lifeguard
  • Restrooms
  • Showers
