Perfect Hawaiian Vacation - October 2008

October is now coming to an end and that means Halloween treats. Hawaii also has some treats in store for us!

The very popular Norwegian Cruise Line 7-day Hawaii Cruise out of Honolulu has special rates starting as low as $999 per person on 11/29, 12/6, and 12/13. See Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island with all of your meals included for less than a $1,000.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Oahu, or the Pink Lady of the Pacific, is re-opening after a major renovation on February 1, 2009. They are offering some special rates for their grand re-opening.

Disney has announced that they plan to open a mixed-use resort on the island of Oahu. This Hawaii resort will feature 350 hotel rooms and 450 vacation villas. They plan to open the resort in 2011 in the Ko Olina Resort Area which is home to the 5 star JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa.

The Ko Olina Resort Area is about a 40 minute drive from Waikiki (without traffic). In the past, lack of any supporting infrastructure has been a minus about the area, but the neighboring town of Kapolei has shown significant growth in recent years. There are now many restaurants and shops as well as grocery stores...Target is even opening their first store in Hawaii in March of 2009. They are also opening a second store simultaneously in the town of Salt Lake close to the airport and also one in Kona on the Big Island in July of 2009.

On Maui, the road past Kipahulu on the road to Hana (technically it is past Hana), is open again after a 2 year closure due to the earthquake on the Big Island. So now, you can go all the way around Haleakala instead of going ALL the way back through Hana and those 600 hairpin turns.

The results for the 2008 Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards are out...Maui and Kauai ranked as the top two Pacific islands.

Also, the Four Seasons name once again took top honors with the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea (pictured), the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu on the Big Island, and their one-two punch on Lanai, the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay and the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, The Lodge at Koele.

One of my favorite topics is when people ask me about where to eat in Hawaii. What are the best Hawaii restaurants? Hawaii has so many different types of restaurants I could not list all of them. A good place to check is the annual Ilima Awards where they list all of the various categories. Click here for the Ilima Award winners for 2007-2008.
