Trip of a Lifetime to Kauai | December 2008

Hiking in Kokee State Park on Kauai
Feedback on your services: Great! Quick responses and easy to talk to. Very open and honest and appeared to really want to give us a trip of a
Feedback on the trip: It was just that. A trip of a lifetime. We really enjoyed ourselves. The condo was very good (Kiahuna Plantation). Clean and comfortable. The beach out front was awesome.
Activities: Helicopter ride (Sunshine Helicopters) was perfect. That probably goes without saying. I don't think a helicopter ride in Kauai could ever be bad. We did have near perfect weather for it though. We opted NOT to purchase the video. Overpriced.
We did a kayak/hiking thing with Kayak Adventures Kauai. It was an easy paddle along the Wailua River and 1 mile hike to Uluwehi Falls (Secret Falls). Very nice. Our guide was cool, and ironically was raised in MN, so we had a lot to chat about.
Our only semi-disappointing activity was the Luau (Luau Kalamaku). That being said, it was NOT bad. It's just that the Luau we went to in Maui 10
years ago seemed a lot better. Then again, you know how memories sometimes get better over time. To someone who had never been to a Luau before, I don't think they would have been disappointed. It's just that our expectations were high. It didn't help that the average age of the people at our table was 65.
The rest of the time we took advantage of our car rental. We just headed in a direction and stopped where we wanted. No schedule to worry about, which is exactly what we were looking for in a vacation. I particularly loved watching the local surfers. The surf was very high when we were there, in fact some of the beaches were closed. It was simply awesome
watching their talent. I could have watched for hours. My only regret is that I didn't take surfing lessons. They had them right outside our
condo. The first couple of days they had kids out there, but our last day of the trip there were adults doing it. I should have taken the risk.
Best Sites: Kilauea Lighthouse, Hanalei Bay, Kee Beach (which was closed to swimming and surfers because the surf was so high - but awesome waves!), Waimea Canyon, and view of Napali Coast (from the helicopter and
at the State Park overlook.
Feedback on restaurants: Brick Oven Pizza was great (which you already know). We ate at the restaurant on the condo property (Plantation Gardens Restaurant) and it was actually our favorite meal. We tried others that were ok, but these stand out as the two BEST. I personally liked Puka Dogs, but Wayne could take it or leave it.
Poipu Shopping Village (right across the road from our condo) was great to have next door. There was a convenience store. Prices were very comparable to the grocery store in town. They also had a short Tahitian
Dance Show that was nice (see picture later). Neither one of us are real late-nighters, but the restaurant (Keoki's Paradise) had some nightly entertainment that we really liked. It was very laid back. Entertainment
was billed as contemporary Hawaiian music.
I guess those are the major feedback areas we wanted to share. Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have further questions. Thanks again for all your help.
